P2. Evaluating my own qualities
Personal characteristics
Skills
All of the work I've done and experience I've received from these 3 years studying Media Studies (and 2 years studying Film Studies.) have made me more sure that I want to work either in the media Industry or the Film Industry.
I wanted to be a film editor but then I was introduced to Animation and I as i enjoyed doing the stop motion animation I would like to do that as well. Therefore my options are open to what i do in the future within the media/film industry.
- Friendly.
- Quick learner.
- Good communicator.
- Good leadership skills.
- Open minded.
Skills
- Premiere Pro.
- DragonFrame.
- Stop Motion.
- Photoshop.
- Working under pressure.
- Meeting deadlines.
I have a good understanding of these softwares and i have been in situations where i had to meet deadlines and work under pressure. But i would like to develop my skills in these softwares further and also feel more confident using After Effects and Illustrator.
Achievements
- Got a distinction in every unit in Level 2.
- Learned a new language in just under 5 months.
- Made a documentary for the Huntingdon Council.
Interests
- Music
- Reading
- Videogames
- Films / Series
- Cinema
- Running
Experience
- Completed projects such as a documentary. I filmed it, downloaded some sounds that were suitable for it and I also did my own edit to it. There was an event that took place in Huntingdon so I thought it could be a good idea to film this as my documentary as we could get a few interviews with the people taking place in this event. I went there two times as the events were happening on the weekend (friday and saturday)
- Created paperman, flowers, butterflies and a frog to complete the animation unit. I did a stop motion animation for this and I used a software called DragonFrame. I connected the camera to the laptop and put the camera on a tripod or floor depending on the shot and I constantly took photographs of every action.
- I did a music video too with 5 other people. I was a Production Manager, my role was to make sure the shoot was running on time and to make sure we didn't run out of time, especially with the artist as we did not have enough time with him so it had to be planned out properly. I was also in charge on some of the paperwork such as the risk assessment for both of the locations we shot at such as the scene with the artist in the bath and the characters form the narrative being near the river.
- I did the advertising campaign with a partner and we both did the same jobs but shared. We went to our client's shop, Jemporium. We took some photos of the shop and clothes and our client collected some clothes for us so we could take it back to college and use the college's studio to take some photos of our models wearing her shop's clothes.
- I also did a special effects project where i was in charge of my own edit and i also shot some of the scenes. I did the after effects myself. We tied a thin wire to the pen to then easily maks out the wire and just have the pen floating.
Evaluation and skills I want to develop:
I consider myself to be skilled when it comes to editing short films such as psychological thrillers and I have watched many such as Donnie Darko. I have been editing for three years now and I have used Final cut and Premiere Pro.
I have more experience with Premiere Pro than with After Effects as i find After Effects to be more complicated as I dont enjoy it as much as putting clips together, therefore i would like to develop my after affects skills and also continue to develop my editing skills for the future as I plan to maybe become an editor.
I have hardly any experience with InDesign as I have never had to use this software in the media diploma and film studies.
I would also like to gain more experience with Photoshop as it would help me with the media career i chose later on in the future.
I dont have as much experience with the Adobe Illustrator as again, I havent had to use it much but 've had some experience with it and I enjoyed it when i knew how to work it, therefore this is another skill I would like to develop.
When it comes to filming and taking Photographs as I have done some extra activities outside of college involving these skills but i would like to develop this further.
